Dear Claire and Bob,

In September 1997, lightning put an end to the 34-year-old organ at St. Michael's Lutheran Church in Amagansett. An organ committee was formed, which selected an Allen Prot??8 organ. The instrument represented a major spiritual and financial commitment for this small church. That commitment actually helped unite us: 81 people donated to purchase the organ, and it was paid for in only a few months.

There is no question that the instrument helps us worship better. Congregants have told me that they notice that we're singing better, and I agree. The organ is enormously versatile – it can respond to any creative use you put it to. In addition to enhancing liturgy, the instrument has enabled St. Michael's to launch a performance program, with annual organ recitals, guest musicians and an upcoming children's production of "Peter and the Wolf." More people are visiting the church and attending services because of this.

The digitized voices in the console transform old standards into exciting new revelations through expression and sounds (especially fun for children's programs). The recorder allows music and worship to proceed as usual when I am away, although I've noticed that substitute organists are also easier to find since they enjoy playing the instrument.

Finally, I notice I practice more, simply because I have a high-quality performance instrument at my disposal. Thank you, Claire and Bob!
